KITA is a fragrance house based in Cape Town, creating fragrance and handcrafted fragranced products for individuals, brands and hospitality.

We develop and manufacture from our Cape Town studio, working in small batches and across different ways of using scent, from personal perfume and products for the home to scent identities for brands, hospitality spaces and the products that carry them.

Some people come to KITA looking for a perfume or candle. Others come with an idea for a fragrance that does not exist yet. A hotel may need one scent to move through its spaces, amenities and retail products. A brand may need a fragrance developed and then manufactured into a finished product.

The work is different, but it all begins in the same place.

Original fragrance development at KITA is led by Natlee Moonflower, our Perfumer & Creative.

Every custom fragrance is formulated and benched at our Cape Town studio. Clients can work with us in person or remotely, with samples sent between our studio and the client throughout development.

There are two development pathways, Origin and Signature.

Origin works from KITA’s established studio library of fragrances, accords and essential oils to develop something custom around the brief.

Signature begins with raw fragrance materials and is built from scratch specifically around the client and their brief.

The right pathway is recommended after we have received and assessed the fragrance brief. It is not something you need to decide before speaking to us.

From fragrance to product.

Creating the scent is often only the beginning.

KITA develops and manufactures fragrance and fragranced products in small batches from our Cape Town studio.

A custom fragrance can move into perfume, candles, reed diffusers, room and linen mist, cold process soap, scrubs, bath salts and soaks, body oils, body butters and other fragranced products as the project develops.

For brands that do not need custom fragrance development, we also offer white label manufacturing using fragrances from KITA’s existing library.

Our minimums are intentionally suited to smaller production runs. This allows a business to begin at a sensible scale, while giving us room to continue manufacturing as it grows.

Scent for brands and spaces.

Fragrance can become part of how someone remembers a brand.

We work with brands and hospitality clients to develop scent identities that can live across physical spaces and products.

The same fragrance might scent a space, move into a candle or room mist, run through a hospitality collection, or become something a guest or customer can take home.

Clients can work with one of our studio fragrances, explore our wider fragrance library, or have something custom developed through Origin or Signature.

Our Electromist™ scenting system allows fragrance to move through hospitality and retail spaces of up to approximately 400m², with fragrance supplied by KITA for continued use in the machine.

Handcrafted remains at the core of KITA.

For us, that does not mean staying small for the sake of being small. It means keeping people and process close to the products we make.

We manufacture in small batches because it gives us flexibility, allows for considered production and makes it possible to work with businesses that may not need the quantities expected by large-scale manufacturers.

As KITA grows, so will our team. The way we make things will remain part of who we are.

Materials and where we come from.

Being based in Cape Town shapes the way we work, but it does not limit the materials we work with.

We source high-quality essential oils locally, including South African and African botanicals, and build our perfumer’s library with fragrance materials sourced from around the world.

Natlee has a particular interest in South African and African fragrance materials, and an understanding of how they can be used in contemporary perfumery. They are included when they genuinely serve the fragrance, rather than simply to give it an African story.

Every brief is different. The materials are chosen for the fragrance we are trying to create.

Natlee Moonflower

Perfumer & Creative

Natlee leads original fragrance development and the creative work at KITA.

Her relationship with fragrance and fragranced products began in 2006 through hands-on product making and development. She later launched Moonflower Co, worked in technical support and candle education at SA Candle Supply, and took over KITA in January 2023.

Today, her work centres increasingly on perfumery, fragrance development and the creative direction of the house.

Warren

Business Development & Operations

Warren works across client relationships, hospitality, business development and the day-to-day operations behind KITA.

He is often one of the first people clients speak to when beginning a commercial project and works alongside Natlee through the practical side of taking an idea into development and production.

And, like most people in a hands-on business, he can still regularly be found helping to make whatever needs making.

Today, we are a Cape Town fragrance house creating for people who want to wear and live with fragrance, for brands that want to make scent part of what they do, and for hospitality businesses that want fragrance to move through their spaces and products.
