Bespoke Fragrance for Brands

Bespoke fragrance and signature scent development for brands from our Cape Town studio.

Q1
Can KITA create a signature scent for my brand?
Yes. KITA creates bespoke fragrances and signature scents for brands across South Africa.

Your brand already has a language.

It lives in the colours you choose. The materials you use. The way your packaging feels in someone's hands. The spaces you create and the details people remember.

Fragrance can become part of that language.

We work with you to develop a scent shaped around your brand, its identity and the experience you want people to associate with it.
Q2
What is a signature scent for a brand?
A brand signature scent is a fragrance developed around the identity, story and intended experience of a specific brand.

It might become the scent of your physical space. A fragrance carried through a candle or room mist. A retail perfume. A branded gift. Or a fragrance identity that moves across several carefully chosen touchpoints.

The purpose is not simply to make something that smells good.

It is to create a fragrance that makes sense for your brand.

Something considered. Recognisable. Connected to the world you have already built.
Q3
Do I need to know what my brand fragrance should smell like?
No.

You do not need to arrive with a fragrance formula or a list of notes.

Tell us about your brand.

Tell us who your customer is. What they value. What your spaces feel like. The materials, colours and places that shape your visual world.

Tell us how you want someone to feel when they encounter the fragrance.

We translate that into scent direction.

Fragrance language is our job. Your brand is yours.
Q4
How is a signature scent developed for a brand?
Every brand fragrance begins with a brief.

We ask about your brand identity, your customer, the role fragrance will play in the business and where the finished scent will be experienced, used or sold.

Once we understand the project, we review your brief and recommend the KITA development pathway best suited to what you are creating.

Your fragrance then moves through rounds of sampling and refinement.

You smell. Your team responds. We listen to what is working and what needs to move.

We refine from there.

The process continues until the final fragrance formula is approved.
Q5
What can we create with my brand's signature scent?
Once the final fragrance has been approved, we can carry it into the agreed fragrance applications and finished products.

Depending on the project, this may include fine fragrance, candles, reed diffusers, room and linen mists, branded fragrance products, retail fragrance collections, and fragrance-led gifting.

A single fragrance may also be considered across more than one application, allowing the scent to become part of different moments within the brand experience.

Not every fragrance behaves in the same way across every product format. Where adaptation, compatibility work or independent testing is required, we will explain this as part of the project scope.
Q6
What is the difference between KITA Curated and KITA Original?
KITA offers two development pathways for signature scent creation.

KITA Curated develops a custom fragrance from our established studio fragrance library. Your brand brief guides the direction and the fragrance is refined through a collaborative sampling process.

KITA Original is developed from raw fragrance materials specifically around your brief and offers a broader original development process for brands seeking a fragrance created entirely around their identity and intended use.

You can read more about both development pathways on our [Signature Scent Development] page.

You do not need to choose a pathway before contacting us.

Once we have reviewed your brand brief, we will recommend the development route best suited to your project, intended use and commercial requirements.
Q7
Who owns my brand's fragrance formula?
Formula ownership depends on the KITA development pathway used for your project.

Formula ownership remains with KITA under KITA Curated, with agreed exclusivity maintained through the applicable annual fragrance commitment.

KITA Original formulas also remain studio-owned unless a formal formula buyout is agreed.

A full formula buyout option is available under KITA Original for brands that require ownership of the completed fragrance formula.

Exclusivity, formula ownership and fragrance commitments are explained clearly before development begins.
Q8
What is the difference between Signature Scent Development and Bespoke Manufacturing?
Signature Scent Development is for brands that want KITA to create a fragrance from a brief.

You bring us the brand, the story and the intended experience. We develop the fragrance direction and formula with you.

Bespoke Manufacturing is for brands that are looking for product development and production rather than a signature fragrance created from a scent brief.

You may already have a product concept, a fragrance direction or a range you want to bring to market and need a manufacturing partner to help develop and produce it.

If you are not sure which service you need, that is completely fine.

Tell us what you are trying to create and we will point you in the right direction.
Q9
Where are KITA's brand fragrances developed and produced?
Fragrance development takes place in our Cape Town studio.

Once the final formula has been approved, we can carry the fragrance into the agreed finished product within KITA, allowing the project to move from fragrance development into production without the need to bring in a separate fragrance manufacturer.

We work in small batches and our fragrance development and production practices are guided by GMP principles and applicable IFRA standards.

Packaging for bespoke projects is sourced locally within South Africa. We do not import packaging on a client's behalf.
Q10
How does my brand begin?
Begin with your fragrance brief.
Tell us about your brand, what you are creating and the role you want fragrance to play.
You do not need to know which development pathway you need before contacting us.
We will review your brief before we speak and use it to prepare for your discovery conversation.
