Signature Scent for Hospitality

Signature scent development and fragrance experiences for hotels, lodges, guesthouses, restaurants, spas, and hospitality spaces across South Africa.

What is a signature scent for a hospitality space?

A hospitality signature scent is a fragrance developed around a property, its identity, and the experience it creates for its guests.

Guests may forget the exact colour of a room or the music that was playing when they arrived.

Scent has a different way of staying with us.

A signature fragrance can become part of how a property is remembered. The quiet familiarity in the reception. The fragrance waiting in a guest room. The scent a guest recognises before they have even consciously placed it.

We create fragrance around the experience you have already built.

Can KITA create a signature scent for my hotel, lodge, or property?

Yes. KITA develops signature scents for hospitality properties from our Cape Town studio.

We work with hotels, lodges, guesthouses, restaurants, spas, and considered hospitality spaces across South Africa.

You do not need to arrive with a fragrance direction or a list of notes.

Tell us about the property.

Tell us where it is. What surrounds it. The materials used throughout the space. The experience you want a guest to have when they arrive and what you hope stays with them after they leave.

We begin there.

How does scent become part of the guest experience?

Fragrance can form part of a single moment or move through several touchpoints across a property.

It may begin at arrival, become part of a guest room, sit quietly within a spa or public space, or leave with a guest through a candle, reed diffuser, room and linen mist, or fine fragrance created for retail or gifting.

The goal is not to make every space smell the same.

It is to consider where fragrance belongs and how it should behave in each part of the guest experience.

We develop the scent first.

Then we consider where it needs to live.

Can one signature scent be used across different fragrance products?

In many cases, yes, but not automatically.

A fragrance that performs beautifully in ambient scenting may need adjustment before it works as intended in a candle, reed diffuser, room and linen mist, or fine fragrance.

Different applications place different technical demands on a fragrance.

Where adaptation, compatibility work, or independent testing is required, we explain this as part of the project scope.

This allows the fragrance identity to remain recognisable while each application is developed with its actual use in mind.

How is a hospitality signature scent developed?

Every hospitality fragrance begins with a brief.

We ask about the property, the guest experience, the landscape or setting, and the role fragrance should play within the space.

We want to understand what guests feel when they arrive.

And what you want them to remember when they leave.

Once we understand the project, we review your brief and recommend the KITA development pathway best suited to the property and intended fragrance programme.

Your fragrance then moves through rounds of sampling and refinement.

You smell. Your team responds. We listen.

We refine from there.

The process continues until the final fragrance formula is approved.

What is the difference between KITA Curated and KITA Original?

KITA offers two development pathways for signature scent creation.

KITA Curated develops a custom fragrance from our established studio fragrance library. Your hospitality brief guides the direction and the fragrance is refined through a collaborative sampling process.

KITA Originalย is developed from raw fragrance materials specifically around your brief and offers a broader original development process for properties seeking a fragrance created entirely around their identity, setting, and intended guest experience.

You can read more about both development pathways on our [Signature Scent Development] page.

You do not need to choose a pathway before contacting us.

Once we have reviewed your hospitality brief, we will recommend the development route best suited to your property, intended applications, and long-term fragrance requirements.

Can KITA scent the property as well as develop the fragrance?

Yes.

Signature scent development creates the fragrance identity. Ambient scenting is how that fragrance can be introduced into selected spaces within the property.

KITA offers scenting solutions for hospitality spaces, including the Electromistโ„ข scent machine, where this is appropriate for the property and fragrance programme.

The scenting requirements of a reception area are different from those of a guest room, spa, or smaller public space.

We consider the space, coverage requirements, and intended fragrance experience before recommending a scenting solution.

Can KITA create products using our hospitality signature scent?

Yes.

Once the final fragrance has been approved, we can carry it into agreed fragrance applications and finished products within the KITA studio.

This may include candles, reed diffusers, room and linen mists, and fine fragrance for guest experience, gifting, or retail.

A fragrance product created for a guest room has a different job from one designed to sit on a retail shelf.

We consider the intended use, production requirements, and any applicable testing before the fragrance moves into a finished product.

Who owns our hospitality fragrance formula?

Formula ownership depends on the KITA development pathway used for the project.

Formula ownership remains with KITA under KITA Curated, with agreed exclusivity maintained through the applicable annual fragrance commitment.

KITA Original formulas also remain studio-owned unless a formal formula buyout is agreed.

A full formula buyout option is available under KITA Original for hospitality clients that require ownership of the completed fragrance formula.

Exclusivity, formula ownership, and fragrance commitments are explained clearly before development begins.

Where are KITA hospitality fragrances developed and produced?

Our fragrances are developed in our Cape Town studio.

Once the final formula has been approved, we can carry the fragrance into agreed finished products within KITA, allowing a hospitality project to move from scent development into production with one fragrance partner.

We work in small batches and our fragrance development and production practices are guided by GMP principles and applicable IFRA standards.

Packaging for bespoke hospitality products is sourced locally within South Africa. We do not import packaging on a client’s behalf.

How do we begin a hospitality fragrance project?

Begin with your hospitality fragrance brief.

Tell us about the property, the experience you create for your guests, and where you see fragrance becoming part of it.

You do not need to know whether you need KITA Curated, KITA Original, ambient scenting, or a wider fragrance programme before contacting us.

We will review your brief before we speak and use it to prepare for your discovery conversation.
